Devon Westfall

Devon Westfall is a human bard and the party's most visible presence in any room he walks into. He has a performer's instinct for reading crowds, a talent for improvised distraction, and a personal ethic that leads him to put corrupt authority figures in their place when the opportunity arises.

He talks about the "rules of thievery" the way other people cite proverbs, attributing them to his mentor. He exaggerates his adventuring credentials frequently and without apparent guilt. The party has learned not to underestimate him in a sparring ring.

Known for

  • Talking the party past two separate city gates
  • Social encounters, performance-based distraction, and charming misdirection
  • Being more dangerous in a fight than his presentation suggests

Klause Jaeger

Klause Jaeger is a fetchling dhampir and the party's thief, lockpick, and acquisitions specialist. He is meticulous, charming when it suits him, and operates with the kind of calm that suggests he has already considered several exits.

He arrived with established connections to the Order of the Shadowed Hand and has been the group's primary operator in Firebell. He wears tekko-kagi — spiked hand gauntlets — a gift from his mentor Marlowe Shadeweaver. His goals point toward acquiring artifacts of significant power. He has not been forthcoming about why.

Known for

  • Lifting Pale Flame operative orders during the confrontation at Ironmane's Forge
  • A working relationship with Seraphine Voss, who sends Page birds when it matters
  • The tekko-kagi, which are both weapons and a mark of Marlowe's trust

Eli

Eli is an elf and the party's primary combat medic, or was, before something changed his approach. He now combines spellcraft with direct physical violence in a way that surprises people who expect a healer. He is empirical in his methods, verbose in his opinions, and capable of dealing more damage in a single round than most of the party would like to admit.

He carries Sakhan's bastard sword, taken from a major enemy the party defeated. He has the broadest linguistic range in the group, useful in the specialized situations the campaign keeps producing. He identified the Nethum mark at the Ethereal Contrivance when most of the party could not.

Known for

  • Keeping the party alive in combat, then contributing substantially to the violence himself
  • The shift from reactive support to an offense-first style that followed acquiring Sakhan's blade
  • Identifying things no one else recognized, and being vocal about it afterward

Azazle

Azazle is a monkey goblin ranger, barely three feet tall, and a more perceptive observer than his appearance invites. He keeps Fenrir — nominally a chihuahua, actually the size of a Great Dane — at his side at all times, and the two operate as a unit in combat. He is warm, impulsive, and occasionally reckless in ways the party has learned to brace for.

He makes jelly beans from cactus, nuts, mushrooms, and honey. He distributes them freely and eats them constantly. He has never fully explained why. Zelyza the Grand Visage saw a tear in his soul when the party first arrived in Firebell. He has not asked what that means.

Known for

  • Fenrir, his companion, who is enormous and does not appear to know it
  • Being the only party member to notice something was off about Paul Festa Leeroy in Ironmane's Square
  • The jelly beans, which are better than they have any right to be

Grizzle

Grizzle is a kobold with pale white scales and a psychic's ability to do things with his mind that other people find alarming. He was exiled from his warren and has lost things since. He intends to get them back. He is calculating in the way that people become when they have learned that institutions will not protect them.

His scales were grey and rust-colored before a Vrock stole the Horn of Rust from him. They have been pale white since. He regards Firebell with the particular attention of someone who has already decided it belongs to him. He learned in Session 29 that Chiezzem — the dragon who exiled him — is also the party's primary antagonist. He received this news with the resigned energy of someone who was already expecting it.

Known for

  • The pale white scales, which are a whole story in themselves
  • Telling Kaemol Dol's receptionist that Firebell belongs to him, to her evident displeasure
  • A long-term objective involving Chiezzem that has just become everyone's long-term objective
