Breaking Cover
Paul Festa Leeroy misdirected. Marlowe Shadeweaver intercepts the party on the road. At the Contrivance, Eli strikes before the Anchor can be installed. The cord breaks.
Read recap →Trizzle at Silt Post
Grizzle’s brother, at the waystation on a freight handoff. The party arrived with no transport, no plan, and a great deal unresolved.
Session XXXIWork passage aboard The Indifferent Wind
Captain Maret Vas caught the party mid-fall and offered passage to Silt Post in exchange for three days of crew work. The ship had lost six to a storm lord cluster two weeks prior. By arrival, she was friendly enough to offer a material-plane port run if her next contract allowed.
Session XXXIEli kills Keloras; the Contrivance detonates
As Klause stepped toward Keloras to install the Anchor, Eli struck. Last words: “They stayed too long. They always stayed too long.” The spiritual detonation annihilated the Roc, the castle, and the airship. Captain Tomsley did not survive.
Session XXXIMarlowe Shadeweaver on the road to the airship
Leaning against a building, unhurried. He spoke with Klause about the Pale Flame and the Anchor decision. Devon addressed their history. Marlowe did not. The tension that followed was not subtle.
Session XXXIPaul Festa Leeroy sent to the Witch King’s Library
Grizzle and Devon convinced him the Anchor had been moved there weeks ago. He accepted it, did something to Grizzle’s memory, and left alone.
Session XXXIThe Conjuring Chamber
The Pale Flame are already inside. The basin speaks a riddle. Below the study, an old chamber and the thing the Donor built centuries ago.
Read recap →Battle in the Conjuring Chamber
Four zealots and a sniper plus the ashen-grey commander from Ironmane's forge. The commander kept her soldiers standing longer than they had any right to be.
Session XXXVerath's letter: the Vessel's purpose
Built to extract a soul intact. Verath did not know whose. He tested it on himself — a sliver of elemental fire. Three years later, he still felt the warmth. The letter ended with an apology.
Session XXXThe Donor's original failure
The chamber below the study: too old, too large. The Donor tried to write their own essence into a device here, centuries ago, and failed. The shimmering rift still drifts at head height.
Session XXXThe portable anchor recovered
On a low stone plinth at the center of the Garden of Lost Souls. The party took it. Paul Festa Leeroy was waiting in the cave above with a lantern and the remains of a meal.
Session XXXPaul Festa Leeroy wants the anchor
He had the unhurried air of a man who just happened to be in a cave system beneath Firebell at the end of the day. He seemed very pleased to see them. The party declined.
Session XXXThe Decision
Pale Flame at Ironmane's forge. The Fractured Workshops entered. A dark journal, partially burned research notes, and the entrance to something that should not exist.
Read recap →Pale Flame operatives at Ironmane's forge
Attempting to take custody of the three people in stasis. Ironmane was holding the door. Klause lifted the commander's written orders in the collision as they left.
Session XXIX"It is not a what. It is a who."
A dark journal in the Workshops archive. Final entry: "It is not a what. It is a who. And it has been here the whole time." Research notes nearby describe the Donor's bargain. The researcher agreed without knowing what they had agreed to.
Session XXIXThe Contrivance
A stone roc above a permanent portal to the Plane of Air. At the bottom, an ancient strix who has been holding it together, alone, for centuries.
Read recap →Wraiths in the Contrivance; Klause turned
A stretch in which Klause was stabbing everyone in reach without notable discrimination, which led to Devon beating him until he stopped. Eli cleaned up the remainder.
Session XXVIIIKeloras, the Unbroken King
An ancient strix, holding the Contrivance together through his own body for centuries. He names the portable anchor and its location: the Fractured Workshops beneath Firebell.
Session XXVIIIWhat's Even Going On
Eli warps. Grizzle attempts an insurance claim. Azazle sees something wrong with someone they've known for months. Chiezzem descends to the Contrivance.
Read recap →Azazle sees something in Paul Festa Leeroy
Everyone else saw a harmless, bumbling merchant they had known since Zamoria. Azazle saw something else. He did not say what.
Session XXVIIChiezzem walks into the Contrivance
Still on the airship, the party watched the Bringer of Death descend toward the Contrivance, change into a human form, walk inside, and disappear.
Session XXVIIIs Ben the Bad Guy
A heist at the Quinlan Estate. Two aurumvoraxes. One locked vault. One room full of ash.
Read recap →The Quinlan vault: nothing but ash
Whatever was in there is gone. Someone burned the contents before the party arrived. The party stood in a room full of ash and thought about what that meant.
Session XXVIMissing People and Warehouse Fires
Three people in crates. A burning warehouse. Azazle as close to the edge as Miro had seen anyone get. They busted through the wall to get out.
Read recap →Three people in stasis, marked by a cult
Ironmane identified the markings. He does not trust Ben. He let them bring the crates in anyway. The three are under Pauline's care at the forge.
Session XXVGargoyles Attack
Off a rooftop. Unprovoked. Most accounted for. One escaped.
Read recap →One gargoyle escapes; it knows the party
Somewhere in Firebell, a gargoyle knows who these people are and what they are capable of. That detail matters.
Session XXIVParty Crashing
Stormvixen Baggyplume, a false arrest, and an immediate claim to be lawyers. A Hightower party, uninvited. Grizzle wins the ring fight.
Read recap →The Hightower party: intelligence gathered
The party was not invited. Devon convinced the son. They spent the evening gathering intelligence on the disappearances. The burglary did not go as planned. They were removed.
Session XXIIITo Firebell
The Turquoise Halfling. A Caviana intercept. Ironmane's Quarter. Zelyza walks out of the forge.
Read recap →Caviana boarding attempt repelled
Eli and Azazle held off forty boarders on the deck. Devon and Grizzle ended the engagement from the other side. Grizzle's approach nearly ended both airships simultaneously.
Session XXIIZelyza sees the tear in Azazle's soul
She was leaving Ironmane's forge. She looked at him, looked more carefully, and told him she could see a tear in his soul. She asked him to come to the Point so she could help.
Session XXIIThe Burning of Lifel
Sakhan was waiting. Lifel was on fire. The party tried to talk first. They always try to talk first.
Read recap →Sakhan the minotaur champion: Lifel
He clapped excitedly at several points during the fight. Not sarcastically. He seemed genuinely delighted. The party declared they were eating steak. They ate steak.
Session XXIIn the Living Vault
This is the account in which Grizzle lost his head. Not metaphorically.
Read recap →Dullahan on the road; Grizzle decapitated
A dullahan took his head during an ambush. Eli sewed it back on with professional competence. Grizzle's primary complaint afterward was about the stitching.
Session XXThe final relic obtained
All three relics collected. The Dungeoneers leave the last location intact behind them. We arrive in Lifel to find it burning.
Session XXHunting Relics, cont.
The Living Vault was not a metaphor. They chose not to fight the charnel creation. This was restraint. From this group, that is notable.
Read recap →Vaultbreaker's Vestments recovered
The Living Vault is left intact behind them. The Dungeoneers have a gift for walking out of places that wanted to keep them.
Session XIXHunting Relics
Tim's Tower. Tim's Pipes. Whoever Tim was, he had a consistent brand. The Blazing Eye already recovered. Questions about the White Raven Trading Company.
Read recap →Tim's Pipes and the Blazing Eye secured
Two of the three relics in hand. In Zakar, every member of the party spent money with commitment. Discretion prevents a more detailed account.
Session XVIIINow Where To
Torcok pays 400 gold pieces. Outside Tuzan, the party meets Rock Rock, a talking rock with ambitions of becoming a bard. Devon engages him as a serious artistic peer.
Read recap →On the Road Again
A Vrock in Lifel. Guards dead. Devon addresses the crowd. The Horn of Rust stolen during the chaos that followed.
Read recap →Vrock attack in Lifel
A vulture-shaped demon, not something you want to encounter after twelve days of travel. The Dungeoneers won. Guards were lost. Devon addressed the crowd. It worked.
Session XVIThe Horn of Rust stolen
Taken during the chaos of the Vrock fight. Its absence mattered enormously to Grizzle. The things that happen to people during the messy middle of a journey are the things that explain who they become by the end.
Session XVI4 Calistril
Wait, He's the Good Guy
A dopp kit of supplies. A twelve-day jungle crossing. A manticore. Devon backhanded it. The chili from Macaulay Cauldron evolved nightly.
Read recap →Ben's allegiance: the read was wrong
He gave the party a small leather box that looks like a dopp kit: supplies for a twelve-day journey out of the jungle. Not the behavior of a villain. The Dungeoneers are processing this at their own pace.
Session XVSuccess at the Witch King's Library
Azazle's slime rot cleared. Devon punched a butterfly to death. A walking cauldron named Macaulay Cauldron. Ben's camp, arrived late.
Read recap →Macaulay Cauldron found under the Scythe Tree
A walking cauldron with no prior owner willing to claim it. The group made chili in it that evening. It has been evolving ever since.
Session XIVThe Witch King's Library
The library did not open easily. Whoever built it had opinions about visitors. Those opinions manifested as a long and exhausting fight. The door opened. The party was still standing.
Read recap →The Witch King's Library: entrance breached
Whoever built it had opinions about visitors. The fight went on, and on. At the end, the door was open. The party was still standing. That is about as much as can be said.
Session XIIIWaiting for Salvation
Miro Pinelight finds Devon’s Daring Dungeoneers on the road between Cevarra and the Ithamar fork. They signed the contract. He handed over the horses. It began.
Read recap →Miro Pinelight joins as party scribe
Sponsored by the White Raven Trading Company, delivered by a raven that could speak exactly two words. Five wanderers became a company with a witness. Everything that follows is on record.
Session XIIThe Conquest of Caviana
Ivasaar Ulawenys takes Caviana. Its military now operates throughout the region, boarding airships and intercepting travelers. The how of the conquest remains disputed. The result does not.
The Fractured Workshops of the Sealed Flame built
Verath, guided by the Donor, constructs the Workshops beneath Firebell. The purpose: a mechanism to hold something vast in suspended potential. Documents inside illuminate this only partially. They were later sealed.
The Donor's first attempt: the Garden of Lost Souls
Long before Verath. Long before the Workshops. An entity tried to write its own essence into a device, failed, and left a rift still drifting at head height. Centuries later, it found another way.
