Ironmane's Guard

The de facto law of Ironmane's Quarter and keepers of Firebell's city gates

Ironmane’s Guard is part city guard, part local government. Ironmane and his guardsmen control Firebell’s city gates and serve as the de facto law in Ironmane’s Quarter, the city’s roughest district. The Guard operates with significant autonomy from the Firebell Council. In the Quarter, Ironmane’s word is the law.

The Guard is distinct from the Firebell Militia, which handles the city’s external defense. The Guard handles what happens inside the walls in Ironmane’s Quarter, and everyone who enters or leaves the city passes through their gates.

Ironmane’s Quarter and Firebell’s city gates. The Council’s writ runs elsewhere in the city, but Ironmane owns his district.

Size and Capability

Small but capable. Ironmane himself is a formidable combatant, and his personal reputation is as much the source of the Guard’s authority as any official charter. The Guard has enough manpower to police the Quarter and hold the gates, but not enough to take on organized crime head-on.

What They Stand For

Pragmatic order. Ironmane keeps the peace without being ideologically rigid about how. He cares about Firebell functioning, and he is willing to work within the city’s complicated social arrangements to make that happen, including maintaining long-standing equilibria with factions that don’t technically comply with the Council’s rules.
