The Living Vault was not a metaphor. I checked.

We had the Pipes. We traveled to Zakar and from there to the Vault itself, which is the kind of journey that sounds straightforward in retrospect and is not. The Vault had contents. The party evaluated the contents with the particular combination of caution and argument that I have come to recognize as their standard operating procedure.

They recovered the Vaultbreaker’s Vestments. They debated fighting a charnel creation, one of those encounters where the question is not “can we win” but “should we start this,” and decided, ultimately, that they should not. This was restraint. From this group, that is notable. I wrote it down with a small note to myself indicating surprise.

The Dungeoneers have a gift for walking out of places that wanted to keep them. The Living Vault was one of those places. They left with what they came for and with the rest of the vault intact behind them, which I suspect it appreciated in whatever way a vault can appreciate things.
