The Point Cabal

Academic shadow authority controlling Firebell's Archives, Academy, and institutional knowledge

The Point Cabal is the shadow authority behind The Point’s legitimate academic institutions. On the surface, they are the administrators of Firebell’s Archives, Academy, Forum, and Schoolhouse: the people who keep the city’s records, train its scholars, and maintain its institutional memory. In practice, they treat that custodianship as power.

The Cabal controls what the city knows about itself and its past. Access to historical records, restricted arcane texts, and academic credentials all flow through them. Anyone who wants something from the Archives eventually has to deal with the Cabal on its own terms.

Area of Operation

The Cabal operates primarily within The Point district, though their influence extends throughout Firebell by virtue of the information they hold. They rarely project force outside their district. Their reach is informational, not military.

The Library Tension

The Cabal’s Archives share a complex with the Merchant’s Guild-controlled Library. The Guild manages public access and commercial knowledge; the Cabal holds the restricted records and historical memory. Neither faction is satisfied with the arrangement, and neither fully trusts the other’s custodianship.

Key Figures

Zelyza the Grand Visage serves as The Point’s representative on the Firebell Council and is a prominent member of the Cabal, the public face of an organization that prefers to stay behind the scenes.

What They Stand For

The Cabal frames itself as guardians of dangerous knowledge, ensuring that information capable of causing harm doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. Whether that framing is principled stewardship or self-serving gatekeeping is a question Firebell’s citizens rarely get to examine for themselves. The Cabal decided long ago that they are the right hands, and they have not revisited the question since.
